This is a long memo with very important
information. Please take the time to go through each item:
What: CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL!
When: This Saturday, February 2nd
Where: The Olde Mill Inn in Basking
Ridge
To Wear: CALIFORNIA BLUE NJYC T SHIRT,
Black pants. Nice Shoes. Girls must have there hair pulled back
away from their face in a neat pony tail, bun, or French Braid. DO
NOT BRING YOUR FOLDER OR MUSIC
All choristers must arrive by 11 AM. Many of
you will be there before that to help with the event. The
intermediate choir will sing at 11:45. Please look for me by 11:15
as we will have a few minutes to warm up.
CHOIRSTERS: You must practice the songs we are
singing at the evernt
-
It’s not that Ninas’ Naughty
-
Daniel
- 2
Childhood songs ( some one, and echo child)
-
Winter
Please review these songs with beautiful
vowels, and the proper dynamics, just as you would sing them with
the group. Spend Extra time on Daniel as that is our newest song.
Part A – your harmonies sounded great yesterday, but please keep
reviewing you part at home!
*You have already
received a listing of the program for Saturday. As you can see,
there will be wonderful presentations that you won’t want to miss.
In addition, we are very pleased with the vendors. There will be
many chocolatiers, jewelry presenters, spa products, hand-crafted
items, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Longerberger Baskets, etc.
They will all have their items displayed on tables in the Grand
Ballroom; you can wander about to see (and purchase) what you would
like. Part of what they take in for the day goes to NJYC. I hope
you have sent our flyer to everyone in your address book, and/or
personally invited friends and colleagues to come. It’s really a
great event; we’re hoping for 1500 – 2000 people this year. Invite,
invite, invite! If you have not yet posted the 3 flyers that were
distributed several weeks ago, it’s not too late. It takes just
minutes to post them in a local business.
*Silent Auction:
thank you so much to those who have committed an item for the Silent
Auction. Several dropped off items yesterday, and several were in
lovely presentation baskets. I have seen the list of items, and
there are really wonderful gifts – again, many thanks for your
support! If you have an item, please be sure to e-mail the form to
Alice McManus ASAP. If you are dropping your item at the Olde Mill
Inn on Friday evening, it would be greatly appreciated if you have
it ‘presentation-ready;’ – in a basket or lovely gift bag. If you
live in the New Providence area, and would like to drop it at my
home, I will take it with me on Friday. Just a reminder: I’m sure
you have all been to a tricky tray or silent auction, so you know
that the items need to be new and unused. The Silent Auction is
where we made the most profit last year.
*Questions: there
still seems to be some confusion about Chocolate Fest/Silent
Auction, so I would like to clarify your recent questions one more
time.
“What is Chocolate
Fest?” – you can see from the above paragraphs and our e-mail flyers
what is entailed for the day. This is our one and only event
fundraiser, and is very important to our budget.
“I can’t afford to
give anything to the Silent Auction.” We did give suggestions early
on about the types of gifts that are most popular, as well as ideas,
such as families pooling resources for a larger item. We also
suggested approaching local vendors or stores for items, such as
dinners at a restaurant, etc. This would not cost you anything.
“Is it money that
you want for the Silent Auction?” Again, we’re not looking for
everyone to fork over a lot of money. Approaching businesses for
items is great.
“Do we have to be
there all day?” No. We would love every family there at some point
to support the Chorus’ efforts, and to hopefully support the
vendors, presenters and Silent Auction table.

*****Our Monday rehearsals actually begin at
4:15. In order for the kids to be fully ready for the warm-ups and
to gather their music they really need to arrive at the Xavier
center by 4:10. Tardiness is increasing each week. Yesterday less
than half the choir was present at 4:15. I understand that many
parents are coming from quite a distance and we always have room for
the occasional traffic/weather related tardiness, but I ask you to
make every effort to have you child at the Xavier center by 4:10. It
is extremely disruptive to have children walk in late every week.
Please feel free to contact me with any specific questions****

DECEMBER 2nd – CONCERT – FIRST
PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, Springfield
As you know, this concert will be a benefit for
Homefirst. (www.homefirstinc.org).
We would like for a student to give a brief overview of the
Homefirst program at the concert on Dec. 2nd. If your
child is interested in this project, you will have to arrange a
brief tour with your child of the refurbished homes in Plainfield
(about a ½ hour presentation), and then work with me on their
presentation. Please contact me directly if your child would like
this opportunity.

should be practicing at least 3 days a week for 15 minutes. ALL
PIECES MUST BE MEMORIZED BY OCTOBER 29TH.
Please print this list off your computer and
check off the songs that you already have memorized.

Listening at Home
Please consider purchasing some CD from other
excellent children’s choirs. Our choristers will greatly benefit
from listening to wonderful children’s voices. Here are some
websites I recommend. Any of their recordings would be great
Parent Social
Two reminders: one for parents and one
for choristers. Parents – as you know, you received an e-mail
invitation (a really cute one!) on October 3 from the Parent Social
chair, Jean Pasternak. If you have not already RSVP’d, please do so
by this Monday, October 15. The Social is coming up on
October 20 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at St. Mark’s in Basking Ridge. It
was really fun last year; great food, conversation and singing (from
Advanced Chorus soloists). Do remember, when you RSVP, to list what
you will bring: A-E: vegetable or salad, F-M: meat or fish, N-T:
dessert or fruit, W-Z: bread or cheese. I hope that most (or all!)
of you can attend.
